"Hi, I'm Jess Wills, and my story with food began long before I could even reach the countertop. In 1982, my mum, Lesley Wills, opened the first Whole Foods shop in Brockley, SE14

—a place where the local community could come together, share meals, and even trade work for food. She created a space that bridged the gap between the structured city life of 9-to-5 jobs and the vibrant, grounded spirit of our neighborhood. Alongside the shop, she opened the Brockley Bean café, where I discovered my own magic in the kitchen. I began crafting '80s plant-based classics like vegetarian sausages, crazy bean bakes, and the most unique muffins, learning to infuse my dishes with the kind of magic you might call 'white witch' energy—food that nourishes not just the body, but the soul. From that spark of inspiration, I’ve been creating food that celebrates simplicity, connection, and the enchanting power of a well-cooked meal.—a place where the local community could come together, share meals, and even trade work for food.
